Rafting trips near: Telluride

Driving into Telluride, you are immediately impacted by the setting of this town in a scenic box canyon. The town is tucked up against staggering mountains of the San Juan range on three sides. Discovered and named by Spanish explorers in the 1700's, Telluride shares a similar story with other Colorado mining towns. Founded in 1878, it boomed with the silver craze and busted in 1893. It remained a sleepy mountain town until the 1970's when the ski area opened and the tourist boom began. Telluride has protected its downtown architecture by being listed as a National Historic Landmark District. Telluride has been a leading community promoting music and film festivals and cultural events to attract visitors. The head waters of the San Miguel River flow through town with whitewater rafting available downstream.
