Rafting trips near: Montrose

Montrose is a growing community in the lower Gunnison River valley surrounded by diverse outdoor recreational opportunities. Montrose carries on a tradition as an agricultural community with fine orchards in the mesa country to the north and west of town. Montrose was a favorite campground of the Ute tribes led by Chief Ouray and his wife Chipeta. A riverside Memorial Park contains a museum featuring their history. Montrose can be the home base for a vacation to include our newest national park, Black Canyon National Park, with spectacular 2,000 foot cliffs of black schist and gneiss rock rising above the Gunnison River. Whitewater rafting and Gold Medal fly fishing in the remote Gunnison Gorge below the national park attract the hardy adventurer. Those willing to accept the challenge of enduring a difficult road and hike will experience one of Colorado's most beautiful wilderness rivers.
