Rafting trips near: Vail

The town of Vail had a much different beginning than most in Colorado. Peter Seibert was a member of the 10th Mountain Division in World War II. Like other members of the 10th Mt., he brought a love for skiing back home and looked to develop ski areas. He met Earl Eaton and they chose the current Vail site, previously called No-Name Mt. They named the town after Charles Vail, the Colorado chief engineer in building Route 6 which later became the corrider for I-70. The pass leading into town already had his name. Vail is now one of the leading ski areas in the world and has also developed into a world-class summer destination. There is easy access to outdoor activities from the Vail valley. Whitewater rafting and kayaking trips can be found on the Colorado River, Clear Creek and on the Arkansas River.
